President's Newsletter
Simplifying Processes
In his February newsletter to faculty and staff, President Ginsberg shares progress towards leadership's goal to simplify processes and reduce unnecessary hurdles.
One of our leadership priorities this year has been to simplify processes and reduce unnecessary work—the kinds of tasks that create hurdles and ultimately take time and energy away from the important work you do every day in support of our students and our community. We know these challenges not only affect your daily routines but also influence your job satisfaction and overall well-being.
Last semester, we conducted a campus-wide survey to identify areas for improvement. Despite the differences in roles and responsibilities across units, many faculty and staff share similar concerns: an abundance of unnecessary meetings, outdated timesheet processes and difficulties with expense reports, among others.
Progress is already underway. As a result of your feedback, employees can now test out of annual Title IX and cybersecurity compliance modules without retaking the training courses year after year. We are also exploring a streamlined timesheet process and new software to simplify advising and academic planning, with other potential policy improvements being discussed by shared governance. In addition, we have established a cross-functional committee with members from across the university community. This group is carefully reviewing and analyzing the survey results, prioritizing key issues and identifying actionable solutions.
Meaningful change takes time, but please know TU’s leadership team is committed to creating a more efficient, supportive workplace experience. We will continue to update you as improvements are implemented.
Thank you for all you do to make Towson University a great place to learn, work and grow.
All the best,
Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
President
