Celebrating 25 years of John B. Schuerholz Park
Honoring a TU legend and a quarter-century of Tiger baseball in the heart of campus
Towson University is celebrating the 25th anniversary of John B. Schuerholz Park, the longtime home of Tiger baseball and a tribute to one of the most accomplished figures in the history of the sport. Dedicated April 29, 2001, the park marked a major renovation and expansion of TU’s baseball facilities, made possible through broad alumni and fan support and led by a transformational gift from John B. Schuerholz ’62, '07 and his family.
The original project added permanent seating, a press box, concessions and restrooms and was celebrated with a dedication ceremony attended by a large crowd of fans and more than 50 former Tiger players. In total, more than 125 supporters contributed to bringing the vision for Schuerholz Park to life.
Located at the corner of Towsontown Boulevard and Osler Drive, the 500-seat ballpark is known for its distinctive beige and reddish-brown brickwork and its central place on campus. Over the years, the facility has continued to evolve, with significant upgrades ahead of the 2019 season including a new warning track, Latitude 36 Bermuda grass, DuraEdge infield material and enhanced padding and turf around home plate. Additional improvements followed in 2020 with the construction of a new opposing bullpen and expanded table seating behind home plate.
Beyond the ballpark, the Schuerholz family’s impact on Towson University is defined by sustained leadership, philanthropy and service. A former Tiger student-athlete and Towson’s 1986 Alumnus of the Year, Schuerholz has remained deeply engaged with the university for decades. He and his wife, Karen, have supported TU’s academic and athletic priorities and have served in key leadership roles, including as honorary co-chairs of the RISE Campaign. Their commitment reflects a lasting belief in TU’s mission and the role it plays in shaping confident, prepared leaders.
Named in honor of John B. Schuerholz and his father, the park stands as a lasting symbol of that relationship—linking Tiger baseball, campus life and a legacy rooted in TU pride.

A life in leadership, a career of impact
In 2017, Schuerholz, Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 1962, was honored as a "gifted team builder whose steady eye for talent consistently produced winning results."
A new name at John B. Schuerholz Park
Before the April 24 home game against Stony Brook, the Towson Tigers will officially unveil the Brooks Robinson Field at John B. Schuerholz Park with a ceremony featuring remarks from Vice President of Athletics Steve Eigenbrot, TU President Mark R. Ginsberg, Brooks David Robinson '83 (Brooks Robinson's son) and Coach Matt Tyner.
The Constance and Brooks Robinson Charitable Foundation, Inc.'s $1 million gift marks one of the largest single contributions in TU Athletics history. The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m., ahead of first pitch.
