Towson University’s Office of Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility has been renamed the Office for Social Impact to more clearly reflect their work engaging students in high-impact community leadership and advocacy.

The new name is the culmination of deep reflection and campuswide conversations, both of which reaffirmed the office’s mission to create a thriving civic culture in which students, faculty and staff have the skills to be active co-creators of our shared future. Programs spanning from National Voter Registration Day to the B'More Engaged Collective—which trains students in place-based community engagement and explores local social justice issues—focus on making positive social impact, preparing students to engage with and shape vibrant communities on- and off-campus.

Under its new name, the Office for Social Impact will continue to build upon the success of its full suite of programming, which also includes Impact TU, the Lutherville Lab Mentor Program, Community Connectors and more.

Several of the office’s programs have garnered national recognition. The Civic Renewal Initiative was awarded the 2026 Insight into Academia Civic Engagement and Community Service Award while additional programs led to TU receiving the Voter Friendly Campus Designation and the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement. The office has also shaped national conversations on civic learning and democratic engagement, with director Romy Hübler serving as a Campus Compact Research Fellow and a steering committee member for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ American Democracy Project.

Staffing in the office will remain the same, and its location will remain in University Union suite 252. For information or questions about programming and partnership opportunities, visit the Office for Social Impact website or email
