An update on off-campus overnight incident

January 11, 2022

President Schatzel and Vice President Hurte sent a message to the TU community on Tuesday afternoon.

Dear Towson University students, faculty and staff —
This morning, our Office of Public Safety alerted the TU community to an off-campus shooting overnight in downtown Towson.

Baltimore County Police investigating the shooting informed our Office of Public Safety that the incident was being investigated as a homicide, and that the deceased victim was a TU student, Ikemefuna Justin Eguh, a 23-year-old enrolled as a senior last semester majoring in Exercise Science. Justin, as he was known by friends, grew up in East Orange, New Jersey.
Next of kin have been notified, and TU Student Affairs staff will be in touch with the family to provide support. We ask that you join us in keeping his friends and family in your thoughts during this most difficult time.
Counseling and support services are available through the TU Counseling Center at 410-704-2512.
Towson University's Office of Public Safety continues to work closely with Baltimore County Police, who continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which took place around 2 a.m. in the unit block of West Susquehanna Ave. Anyone with information is asked to call county homicide detectives at 410-307-2020.
Thank you for supporting one another during this difficult time.
