The Ben and Myrna Cardin Center for Civic Engagement and Civil Discourse at Towson University is a dynamic hub for open dialogue, respectful debate and active citizenship. Established in partnership with former U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and Myrna Cardin, the Center is dedicated to advancing civil discourse and strengthening democratic participation through student engagement, faculty collaboration and community involvement.
Through programming, events, and experiential opportunities, the Center fosters an inclusive environment where complex issues are examined with intellectual curiosity, empathy and mutual respect.
Towson University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tameka Porter as the Interim Executive Director of the Ben and Myrna Cardin Center for Civic Engagement and Civil Discourse.

Created through a collaboration between Senator Ben Cardin, Myrna Cardin and Towson University, the Center reflects a shared commitment to strengthening democratic values and encouraging thoughtful, respectful engagement across political, cultural and generational divides.
The Center is co-chaired by Senator Cardin and Myrna Cardin who provide thought leadership and strategic direction working closely with TU leadership, faculty and students.
Myrna Cardin is an alumna of Towson University and past chair of its advisory board.
Senator Cardin serves as Presidential Scholar using his 58 years of experience as a state legislator, member of the House of Representatives and most recently as Maryland’s senior U.S. Senator.
Together, they work with TU students, faculty, staff and community partners to advance the Center’s mission.
