TU is making sports headlines during break
Tye Smith could be headed to the Super Bowl and Tom Flacco dominates an all-star game

TU senior football standout Tom Flacco was named the MVP of the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl after throwing for two touchdowns and running for another.
Flacco let the National team to a 35-7 win January 12 in Daytona Beach. He threw for 173 yards and rushed for 17 more. Flacco completed his two-year TU career in November, amassing more than 6,000 yards passing.
A Super Shot
Tennessee Titans cornerback Tye Smith, a member of the TU class of 2016, entered the weekend one win away from the Super Bowl.
The cornerback had one assisted tackle for the Titans in a Divisional round win over the Baltimore Ravens. Smith would be the first TU grad to appear in the Super Bowl since offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod helped the New Orleans Saints win Super Bowl XLIV in 2010.
Stoetzer '99 Named Maryland Sportswriter of the Year
Pat Stoetzer, sports editor of the Carroll County Times, was named the 2019 Maryland Sportswriter of the Year from the National Sports Media Association.
Stoetzer, who graduated from TU in 1999, has been with the Carroll County Times as a writer and then editor since graduation. He has covered high school sports, the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens and much more during his career.
