The U.S. team took home its fourth straight World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship title with an 11-8 win over Canada on July 9.
Held on campus at Towson University’s elite athletic facilities, including Johnny Unitas® Stadium and Tiger Field, the 11-day tournament was made possible in part by students from TU’s Department of Kinesiology.
Mary Nadelen, a clinical associate professor of kinesiology and the clinical coordinator for the athletic training program, supervised students during the tournament as they volunteered their time working alongside the athletic trainers and team physicians at the event.
“The students got to experience the vast number of responsibilities and emergency procedures that the medical team has trained and prepared for at this grand-scale event,” Nadelen says.
In addition, 15 students from Assistant Professor Ari Kim’s Internship in Sport Management class assisted in event operations and enhanced the experience of fans and athletes.
“A large-scale international event helps students acquire valuable skills, including communication and public speaking, by interacting with diverse participants from the world," Kim says.
