A passionate SECU Arena crowd is expected as the 24-7 Towson University women's basketball team hosts Old Dominion (23-9) in the first round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on Friday, March 18, at 7 p.m.

TU’s program is on the rise after winning a regular-season-record 24 games. This is the second postseason berth for the program in four years after making the NCAA Tournament in 2019. Under coach Diane Richardson, TU has won 20 games in a season twice since 2017. The Tigers went 12-2 at SECU Arena this season.

Old Dominion had a 12-6 mark in Conference USA this season. The winner of Friday’s game will play Columbia (23-6, 12-2 Ivy League) in the second round. The Lions defeated Holy Cross, 80-69, in the first round of the tournament.

The 2021–22 season has come full circle for the women's team, which will start and end its campaign in WNIT tournaments. The team began the slate with the Preseason WNIT Classic from Nov. 12–15. The Tigers went 2-1 in the preseason tournament, earning wins over Florida and Wofford. First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection Aleah Nelson scored 39 points in the win over the Gators.

Nelson was joined in postseason honors by Allie Kubek, who was picked to the All-CAA Third Team. Kylie Kornegay-Lucas was selected as the Sixth Player of the Year.
