Towson University President Kim Schatzel has been selected by The Daily Record as one of Maryland’s most influential leaders in the publication’s 2022-23 ‘Power 100’ list.

The list, chosen by The Daily Record’s editorial team, recognizes the state’s most significant and respected leaders in business, government, nonprofit, law and education. This marks Schatzel’s second appearance on the ‘Power 100’ list, as she was honored in the inaugural program in 2021.

“It has been an honor to be recognized by The Daily Record during my time at TU, but as I’ve often said before, these accolades are truly reflective of Towson University’s growing momentum,” said Schatzel. “TU’s state-wide impact is a result of the tremendous faculty, students and staff here on our campus, and I know that this institution will only continue to soar because of them.”

In November, it was announced that Schatzel will depart TU to become the 19th president of the University of Louisville. Her tenure at Towson University will conclude at the end of January after nearly seven years as president.

In her ‘Power 100’ profile, Schatzel noted that serving as TU’s 14th president has been the greatest success of her career. “As an anchor institution, as a nationally recognized leader in inclusive excellence and as a critical economic driver for our region -- Towson University’s impact is immeasurable. I am so grateful to have been part of this remarkable institution.”

This recognition adds to a list of accolades attained during President Schatzel’s time at TU. She has often been honored by The Daily Record for her leadership and contributions to Maryland, including as one of the state’s Most Admired CEOs in 2017 and 2022, as well as in its Most Influential Marylanders in 2017 and 2021; in its 2018 Icon Honors; and its Power 30 Higher Education list in 2021 and 2022. President Schatzel is also a three-time honoree as one of the Top 100 Women in Maryland, for which she has been named to the newspaper's Circle of Excellence

President Schatzel is among many higher education leaders named to the ‘Power 100’ list, including the presidents of several University System of Maryland institutions and USM Chancellor Jay A. Perman.

In addition to Dr. Schatzel, the list features Susan Ganz (CEO and Chairman, Lion Brothers, Inc.), who is the former chair of TU’s Board of Visitors, as well as alumni Rob Sharps ‘83 (President and CEO, T. Rowe Price Group) and Calvin Ball ‘97 (Howard County Executive).
