Towson University celebrated its campus leaders inside the University Union Ballrooms as the Division of Student Affairs and the TU Student Government Association (SGA) held their annual Student Affairs Leadership Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 4.

The event featured a capacity crowd and was livestreamed on YouTube.

Forty-nine students, organizations and programs were honored during the event, highlighting their exceptional efforts and involvement on campus.

More than 250 student organizations call TU home, from which 80 students and 25 student organizations were nominated.

Nominees were chosen from student organizations representing academic programs, sports clubs, the arts, fraternity and sorority life, cultural organizations and many more.

Each year the Student Affairs Leadership Awards is an opportunity to not only celebrate selected award winners but to acknowledge and honor the significant contributions of our student leaders and student organizations,” says Kelly Carpenter, assistant director for campus programming and student activities.

Through the nomination process, we learn about the amazing seen and unseen work students are doing to build inclusive belonging, provide impactful development opportunities and bring awareness to important issues.”

While it may not have been the red carpet at the Oscars, the flash bulbs were out during the social hour beforehand. Students, faculty and staff had an opportunity to reminisce about the past year and share advice on how to grow.

One of TU’s student a cappella groups, Off Track, put on a show for all in attendance before the winners were announced.

Interim President Melanie Perreault said in her remarks TU would not be what it is without the combined efforts of everyone on campus.

“All of you work together to foster a sense of belonging on our campus,” Perreault said. “You support inclusion, you make a positive impact on this campus day in and day out. It’s because of all of you that TU is the vibrant campus it is.”

Nominations are accepted between February and March each year for awards.

Students who want to get involved in an organization can learn more by emailing . They can also learn more about leadership programs and workshops offered through TU.
