Learn more about campus life and student activities, enjoy performances by the TU Pep band and TU gymnastics, and join fellow new students in a group TU photo on the field at Johnny Unitas Stadium®.
Regardless of freshman, transfer or housing status, all students must attend New Student Convocation.
question from the tu community
Why do freshman and transfer students attend New Student Convocation?
“New Student Convocation brings your entire TU support system together in one room, giving our incoming freshman and transfer students the perfect opportunity to meet their peers, build community, and be formally welcomed to their university community.” — Division of Student Affairs
First Year Experience (FYE) advising

question from the tu community
Will the FYE adviser I meet during Welcome to TU be my official adviser for the year?
“Yes, your assigned adviser will be your formal adviser for the year. FYE advisers and your fellow FYE peers are assigned based on similar majors and disciplines. We do this so all students can meet others with similar academic and career interests before the semester begins." — Office of New Student and Family Programs
TU Takeover Events
With FYE advising and trainings out of the way, top off your Welcome to TU experience at TU Takeover on Fri., Aug. 21, from 6 – 10 p.m.
From outdoor movies, gaming, and live-band karaoke to fair rides and inflatables like human foosball, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at TU Takeover.
Activities will take place on the West Village lawn, TowsonTown field, outside of Cook Library and throughout campus, making this a great opportunity to make friends, get acquainted with campus and enjoy local vendors and giveaways.
question from the tu community
How can I stay up to date on TU Takeover events?
“Orientation leaders are stationed all across campus during TU Takeover. They’ll be your best resource for all in-real-time updates to events, vendors and giveaways. Be sure to plan which activities you’d like to attend before TU Takeover starts, as not all activities or vendors will be active the full four hours.” — Student Activities
