Shuttle Services

 

Towson University runs shuttle routes both

on-campus and off-campus to serve the general campus community. While on campus, community members should plan to park their vehicles in a designated lot and use the shuttle to access other locations on campus.

In addition to the Paratransit Service, the front seats of each campus shuttle bus are reserved for individuals with disabilities.

*Note- Shuttle services do not operate when there are no scheduled classes.

 

Updates to Fall 2014 Campus Shuttle Services

To better serve and accommodate the growing campus community riding the shuttles, Parking & Transportation Services has implemented changes to the Fall 2014 shuttle routes. Shuttle schedules have been carefully reviewed and adjusted to assist individuals with getting to and from campus based on ridership demands. The following changes will begin Wednesday, August 27, 2014:

 

Two New Routes have been added:

1. Tiger InTown Route- For the first time ever, we are offering a 7 days a week, evening in-town route. The off-campus Tiger In Town route will get the campus community to and from venues and other entertainment within the Towson area. It will also better service the area surrounding the Institute of Well Being located near Dulaney Valley Road and Joppa Road.

2. Black Express Route – To help ease the morning on-campus shuttle commute, we will run the Black Express Route Monday through Thursday. It will only service core campus and West Village. This shuttle will not service Towson Center or University Village.

Expanded Shuttle Schedules for:

  • Kenilworth Route
  • Goucher Route
  • Timonium/Cockeysville Route
  • Rodger’s Forge Route

Expanded SafeRide Service:

  • SafeRide has extended service to include pick-ups (no drop offs) from designated Tiger In Town Route stops Monday – Sunday, from 2:30am-7am.
  • University Village is included for this service during regular SafeRide hours.

Also, in order to maintain the safe operation of shuttles on the roads, the following stop has been discontinued:


1. *The Burke/Hillen Stop #51 on both the Loch Raven Route and Goucher Route.
* Those who boarded at Burke/Hillen Stop #51 should now board at DonnyBrooke Stop #23

As a reminder, shuttles will not be in operation if there are no scheduled classes on campus. Additionally, shuttles will not operate when the University is closed for a holiday or for inclement weather. Also, a valid TU ID is required to board all off-campus shuttles.

NOTE: Printed Fall 2014 Shuttle Schedules are currently available in person at the Parking and Transportation Services Office.

 

Maryland Transportation Administration (MTA) Public Transportation

Please visit MTA's website for schedules, maps, and any other related information for their available public transportation services, as Towson University's Parking & Transportation Services is a separate entity from MTA .

Summer Semester & Academic Year Breaks Alternative Options

Campus shuttles will have an abbreviated schedule during scheduled classes for Winter and Summer Sessions. Campus shuttles will not be in operation when no classes are scheduled or when the university is closed for a holiday or inclement weather.

When campus shuttles operate on an abbreviated schedule, Parking & Transportation Services offers other options such as: the Alternative Transportation Program, the Carpool Program, the Hybrid Vehicle Program, purchasing a prorated annual permit, or purchasing a daily, weekly, or monthly permit (NO REFUNDS).

 

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, the primary concern is the safety of the campus community.  Shuttles will not operate if the University is closed due to inclement weather.  If the University opens late, every effort will be made to start operating shuttles one hour prior to the announced late opening time.  If the University closes early, shuttles will operate for up to one hour after the official closing time, provided it remains safe to do so.  If department management determines it is unsafe to operate shuttles, service will be discontinued whether or not the university is open.
