The Department of Electronic Media & Film strives to develop and inspire your creativity, foster your talents and skills, and empower you to succeed in a constantly changing digital world. EMF provides many opportunities to expand your knowledge and experiences, shape your expressivity, and heighten your understanding and awareness of media, its powerful traditions, and its exciting future.
EMF engages a new generation of enthusiastic artists, entertainers, and communicators to share media in bold and unconventional new ways. You will build communities and create partnerships that encourage artistic, social, and cultural diversity. You will explore the potential of film, video, audio, and new media and enlarge the scope of your imagination. You will discover the link between liberal arts and professional training; between theory and practice. Remember, everything starts with a vision, not a camera; with a voice, not a microphone.
EMF –
- nurtures flexible and expressive storytellers able to write and produce in many forms and styles;
- develops highly competent professionals skilled in traditional as well as emerging media technologies;
- cultivates articulate, critical, and literate citizens who understand the history, theory, and aesthetics of media;
- trains artists and scholars to work collaboratively and in an interdisciplinary environment;
- motivates communicators to become fully aware of the transformative power of media and their role in responsible civic engagement;
- provides real world experiences through internships and service-learning opportunities;
- encourages enterprising and self-directed individuals who can practice creative entrepreneurship and other economic survival skills.
The department offers the undergraduate major in electronic media and film leading to the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
Students interested in the major should contact the department to be assigned an adviser to assist them in designing a program to meet their individual needs.
