DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES
Testing Services Center
The Testing Services Center, located in the Administration Building, Room 232B, provides testing accommodations for students registered with Disability Support Services. The center offers extended time, reduced distraction testing spaces, computers and other assistive technology, as well as readers and scribes, as appropriate. All tests are proctored to ensure academic honesty.
Test Accommodation Process
Student Responsibilities:
To request test accommodations, the student must first give his or her instructor the DSS memo authorizing testing accommodations. This should be done as early as possible each term.
Students using the Testing Services Center are required to follow the Contract Agreement for Testing Procedures.
Students are encouraged to use the Online Test Accommodation Request Form available on this site and submit it to their instructor one week in advance of the test date. The Testing Center will be alerted automatically when the form is submitted electronically.
Students may also use a paper version of the Test Accommodation Request Form by completing the student portion of the form and hand delivering it to their instructor one week in advance of the test date. This form can be printed from this site and is also available from the Testing Services Center. The student must call the Testing Center for an appointment at 410-704-2304 at least 3 days in advance of the test if the paper form is used.
On test day, students must arrive on time and be prepared to show a photo ID. Students should also bring an appropriate writing instrument, scantron and/pr blue book (if required) and any other approved test aids (e.g., calculator, textbook, notes) to the center.
If students do not make their request for test accommodations according to the procedures and in a timely manner they may not have the opportunity to be accommodated.
Faculty Responsibilities:
Before accepting any test accommodation request, each term instructors should have in their possession the DSS memo authorizing test accommodations for the student.
A week before the test date, the instructor should expect the student to make the request by either: (1) submitting an on-line request or (2) hand delivering a paper version of the Test Accommodation Request Form. DSS informs students that they must make their request for test accommodations in a timely manner or they may not have the opportunity to be accommodated.
Instructors should check their e-mail regularly from scheduling_system@towson.edu. Upon receipt of the e-mail, the instructor should review the request, approve it (if appropriate) and submit the form electronically. A message will be sent automatically to the student and the Testing Center to schedule the test.
If the paper Test Accommodation Request Form is used, the instructor should complete the faculty portion of the form and attach it to the test.
Tests should be sent to the Testing Center at least 24 hours in advance of test time. Tests can be submitted by fax (410-704-4699), or by e-mail to dsstesting@towson.edu, or hand delivered to the Administration Building, Room 232B.
Completed tests are returned by Testing Center courier to the appropriate department in a sealed envelope. If instructors prefer, they can indicate on the form that they will pick up the test.
The Testing Services Center is committed to providing a secure and conducive testing environment for students. All tests are proctored. Tests are secured in a locked file cabinet. All students are required to abide by the Contract Agreement for Testing Accommodations.
