Whether you’re an alum trying to share Towson University’s contemporary story with colleagues, a high school student or parent looking at options for the next four years, or an admitted student preparing to enroll, here are some basic details about TU that may help you.
At the root of our institution is a phenomenal, dedicated faculty. And our campus climate that provides opportunities for all students is fueled by a sense of momentum that is palpable to those on campus.
This is TU:
A first-choice institution
Towson University is a first-choice institution ranked among the best in the region. It is the largest public university in the Baltimore area. TU has more than 22,000 students enrolled in either undergraduate or graduate studies.
Engaged and accomplished professors
Towson University professors aren't just experts in the fields they teach — they've achieved in those fields and provide opportunities for students to engage in undergraduate research. And TU students applaud their professors for providing a personal level of mentorship that last years beyond graduation.
A major return on investment
TU has been lauded as a "best value" university among the dozens of rankings and achievements bestowed by external analysts. In addition, TU provides more than $31 million in institutional aid. And the value of a TU degree is only increasing.
Opportunities for all
Towson University students and alums praise the people and culture on campus for creating opportunities for students to learn and thrive. TU also can celebrate a zero achievement gap for minority students — who enjoy the same academic success and graduation rates as the entire campus population.
Safe and always something to do
TU's campus safety has been annually applauded. And the student life element of Towson University is one of the things students praise most. TU boasts an award-winning student activities center and activities for everyone.
A culture of giving
In 2018, Towson University students contributed more than 1 million hours of service to the greater Baltimore community. There are plenty of avenues for involvement at TU.
Impacting Baltimore City
Through the BTU initiative, TU is committed to positive impacts, making a difference, and transforming lives in Greater Baltimore and throughout Maryland. We do it through partnerships, elevating the work we’re already doing.
Environmentally conscious
TU has been nationally designated as both a Green Campus, by Princeton Review, and a Tree Campus USA honoree, indicative of both the sustainability efforts underway and the dedication to the on-campus environment.
Vibrant surrounding community
With ample housing, shopping and dining options in walking distance, TU is uniquely situated in a bustling community. There is more than $1 billion in private development happening within a half-mile of campus, and the new TU space at the former Armory building is a part of that.
A campus growing
TU has experienced significant growth in the past 15 years, and has invested more than $700M in campus improvements over the next few years. Construction upgrades include a new Science Complex, upgrades to the University Union and new dining & housing options, with a new academic building for the College of Health Professions in the works.
A proud world-wide network of alumni
More than 150,000 strong, the Towson University alumni community is close-knit, engaged and leading the surrounding communities. Many alums choose to stay in Maryland, providing a network of opportunities for future alums and an incredible base to the local economy and civic community.
