Former First Lady Michelle Obama included Towson University's Kanji Takeno in her May 7 post for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Takeno, who retired at the end of 2019 as Towson University’s director of photographic services after 23 years, was part of a collage of photos Obama shared. He remains an adjunct instructor of Japanese in the Department of Foreign Languages.

TU's official account quoted Obama's tweet, saying, "We couldn't agree more. Thank you @MichelleObama for highlighting Kanji Takeno, one of our many professors going above and beyond to keep our community #TUtogether."

This story is one of several related to President Kim Schatzel’s priorities for Towson University: TU Matters to Maryland.
