Department of Accounting

The Department of Accounting is one of only two accounting programs among Maryland's public colleges and universities accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).  Of all the accounting programs in the United States, only about one in three have achieved this distinction.

• Mission and Core Values

The Department of Accounting provides students with a high-quality graduate and undergraduate accounting education built on a comprehensive foundation in the liberal arts and sciences. The department also provides students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to assume positions of responsibility and leadership in business and society. We provide students and faculty with learning experiences through a combination of scholarly activities and partnerships with the accounting profession and business community.

The Department of Accounting prepares undergraduates for entry-level jobs and specialized master's degree programs in accounting and the CPA exam. The faculty of the department are committed to honoring and rewarding excellence in teaching and scholarship; promoting and fostering professionalism and ethical behavior amoung faculty and students; and fostering a climate that is conducive to collegiality, civility and openness to diverse ideas and views.

Students are assigned an adviser upon declaring accounting as a major. Students meet with their advisers each term to discuss their program and for assistance in making any necessary changes in their course of study.
