Congratulatory statement on Baltimore's tech hub designation
Incoming President Mark R. Ginsberg and Interim President Melanie Perreault issued the following statement on Tuesday, October 24
October 25, 2023
On October 23, the Biden-Harris Administration, alongside the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, announced Baltimore City as one of 31 Regional Innovation and Technology Hubs (Tech Hubs) across America. These Tech Hubs are designed to spur American innovation, strengthen manufacturing and create good-paying jobs in every region of the country.
Towson University's incoming president Mark R. Ginsberg and interim president Melanie Perreault issued the following letter of congratulations:
Baltimore is one of the great American cities, and this week, it becomes even greater. The designation as a federal tech hub—bestowed by the Biden-Harris administration upon only 31 U.S. cities—confirms that Charm City is indeed a vital catalyst for our nation's success.
As one of Baltimore’s key anchor institutions, Towson University is uniquely positioned to help the city address the growing demands of our science and technology industries. TU is home to one of the country's top cyber education programs, serving the epicenter of our nation’s government workforce.
We stand ready—as a nationally recognized leader in academic excellence, student success and community engagement—to help revolutionize biotechnology and support the program’s priorities of job creation, fiscal growth and national security.
TU’s impact already fuels Baltimore, thanks to many partner organizations and innovative initiatives on our campus, like the StarTUp at the Armory, the top-rated university economic development program in the country. Working together with the city and federal lawmakers, we are poised to now take that impact even further.
Many of TU’s own supported this process, including Sidd Kaza, who among others is responsible for our cyber programming, as well as Daraius Irani and Patrick McQuown, who spearhead our entrepreneurship and business engagement efforts. I thank them and extend my sincerest congratulations to the Greater Baltimore Committee, its president Mark Anthony Thomas and all those involved in this momentous achievement.
Sincerely,
Melanie Perreault, Ph.D.
Interim President
Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
