Biography

Eric A. Stone is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland completing his dissertation in the Department of Kinesiology with a concentration in physical cultural studies. He joins Towson University as a lecturer after two stints as an adjunct faculty member. His work focuses on examining the role of sport as a vehicle for youth and community development within urban contexts. He is also interested in the role of urban greenspace as a site of transformational possibility in making cities, physical activity and recreation/leisure more equitable and just. He obtained a B.A. in history in 2009 from York College of Pennsylvania, and an M.A. with merit in early modern European history in 2011 from the University of Sussex in the city of Brighton, UK.

Eric’s teaching interests center on helping students learn to apply critical thinking and communication skills in the context of sport management, kinesiology and physical cultural studies. He has taught courses on sport and globalization, sport in American Society, history of sport in the United States, history of physical culture, sport and science in America, sport for development and more.
