Mission Statement for the Department of History
Equally important to our Mission is our effort to encourage and to facilitate life-long learning. In addition to focusing significant energy on our History and History Secondary Education Majors, we also take great pride in the fact that our courses, especially our survey courses, contribute to five categories of the University’s General Education requirements, two of them writing intensive categories. All of our courses are designed to encompass the broad sweep of world history in all major areas. Yet in each individual course, students are trained in the skills which are not only essential in mastering the historical discipline, but are also indispensable to success in their future professions: sound reading and analytical skills, ability to construct and articulate arguments, and above all, perhaps, the ability to write clearly and effectively.
