Dear Towson University students, faculty and staff —
Towson University’s Office of Public Safety continues to assist Baltimore County and
Baltimore City police in an investigation into a traffic stop that took place just
before 6 p.m. on Monday.
Baltimore County Police stopped a vehicle along Osler Drive near Emerson Drive. The
suspect fled on foot and was pursued by a Baltimore County officer along Emerson Drive.
The suspect fled off campus and was arrested in Baltimore City.
Police activity may continue Monday evening as part of the investigation, but there
is no continuing threat to campus. No members of the TU community were injured in
this isolated incident.
The safety of our community and campus is our top priority and we thank all students,
faculty and staff who sheltered in place to enable Baltimore County police to bring
this incident to a conclusion.
We are committed to do all we can to make our students, faculty and staff continue
to feel safe whenever and wherever they are on campus. Counseling and support services
are available through the TU Counseling Center at 410-704-2512.
Thank you for supporting one another.
Sincerely,
Vernon Hurte, Ph.D.
Vice President, Student Affairs
