Getting an opportunity to teach in my first year at TU helped me recognize my passion for teaching and the high expectations that the professors have on me benefits my development as a teacher greatly. It truly feels like all professors in the UTeach program care deeply about our success and development as teachers.

Powell is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and participated in TU's UTeach program with a focus in secondary education. His continued passion for improving his teaching skills allowed him to present at the Research in Undergraduate Mathematics conference in Alexandria, Virginia.

Katherine Avalos Serpas

Katherine Avalos Serpas

I feel incredibly proud and excited for what the future holds. My mother has been my biggest supporter, and as a first-generation graduate, this achievement means more than words can express. These past few years haven’t been easy, but every challenge was worth it. I’m truly grateful to see all the hard work pay off.

Serpas is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a focus in marketing. From the moment she visited TU for an open house, she felt a connection to campus. During her time at TU, she participated in the Latin American Student Organization, the Women in Business ClubMentHER and the American Marketing Association

Joyce Makori

College of Health Professions

Joyce Makori

My professors invested in my success both inside and outside the classroom. Whether it was mentorship, academic guidance, or emotional support during challenging moments, they made me feel seen and supported every step of the way. On May 11, 2025, when my car suddenly caught on fire while driving home from school, I was distraught and overwhelmed, but in that moment of despair, the TU faculty raised some funds, helping me get another car.

Makori has had a passion for health care since a young age. She is graduating with a Masters of Science in physician assistant studies and will work as a physician’s assistant in the endocrinology department at the University of Maryland Medical System in downtown Baltimore.

Christina Pena

College of Education

Christina Pena

Having three daughters inspires me to set an example for them that you can do anything you put your mind to! I will be very emotional on graduation day to see my daughters watch me walk across that stage. I am so proud of myself for finishing my degree. It wasn’t easy, but I did it!

Pena always knew she wanted to be a teacher. That's why Towson University was her first choice of colleges. She will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and step into the classroom next year. Pena was able to spend time with her daughters, student teach and spoke at the Multilingual Learners Conference on campus, all while earning her degree.

Manyaka Anjorin

Fisher College of Science and Mathematics

Manyaka Anjorin

TU is a place where you can reinvent yourself, find support and discover what you’re capable of. I’m grateful for the professors, mentors, family, friends and programs that believed in me and opened doors I didn’t even know existed. I wasn't just educated, but shaped into a better thinker, leader and person. I will always carry that with me.

Anjorin will graduate with a bachelor's in computer science and already has a job lined up with JP Morgan as a software engineer. Coming from Limbe, a coastal city in Cameroon, Anjorin was looking for a major that would allow him to solve complex problems using technology. At TU, he dove headfirst into those problems as a member of the Software Engineering Club,  the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society and the National Society of Black Engineers.

Lorena Ayestas

COLLEGE OF Liberal Arts

Lorena Ayestas

Beyond academics, TU has provided me with invaluable opportunities to grow both intellectually and personally, instilling values that I will carry forward in all aspects of my professional and personal life. I am deeply grateful for every experience, challenge, and connection that has shaped me, and I look forward to building upon them as I embark on the next chapter of my journey.

Ayestas is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in foreign languages, with a focus on Spanish, and minor in family science. As a non-traditional student, Ayestas decided to continue her educational journey once her family responsibilities allowed her. She embraced this journey, usually organizing study groups for the younger students in her cohort. There, she provided support, examples of leadership and sometimes even fed them. Now, after graduating, she will be looking to help others in language education, community outreach and social services.
