The Career Center supports our student-athletes in their endeavors beyond the playing field. We recognize the unique college experience of student-athletes and strive to assist them with translating competencies learned through athletics participation into real-world applications outside of the athletics context.

Towson University student-athletes develop unique, transferable skills throughout their undergraduate experience. These skills make student-athletes highly marketable and valuable assets in today's work place. The Career Center is dedicated to assisting student-athletes in communicating their athletic experience and preparing them for their professional career.

In addition to the resources below, career counselors and coaches are available to answer questions and provide guidance.

Career Exploration

What comes after graduation? Retiring from competitive sport can be difficult, and finding your new identity and corresponding lifestyle outside of sport is your next challenge. The Career Center offers resources for exploring your personal and professional aspirations beyond the playing field.

  • Self-Assessments – Utilize resources that will help you learn more about yourself and be confident in your major choice and career goals
  • Designing Your Career Plan (EDUC121) – Enroll in a general course designed to teach students the process of decision making for career and life choices
  • Career Resources by Major – Search resources specific to your field of study
  • Tiger Mentor Network – Explore the TU community to find and connect with student-athlete alumni and gain valuable career advice. Utilize the TU Athletics group under the campus activities filter to find and connect with mentors

Take time to browse through Athlete Network Life After Sport and the NCAA After the Game to read about how other student-athletes handled the transition from sport to career.

Study Abroad

With the commitment to training and the competition schedule, study abroad opportunities for student-athletes can be limited. Visit TU Tigers Abroad for tips on how to plan a study abroad experience that fits your athletic schedule. For more information, be sure to check the Study Abroad & Away Office.

Student-Athletes Abroad is an additional resource to find international programs and internships tailored to the student-athlete lifestyle.

On-Campus Resources and Workshops

Log in to Handshake and go to the “Events” tab to search for TU job and career fairs, workshops and programs designed to help student-athletes achieve their career goals. Keeping in mind that student-athletes have extremely demanding schedules and cannot always attend university-wide events, the Career Center offers opportunities exclusively for student-athletes to provide focused support for career development.

MVP to CEO: Student-Athlete Career Success Program Series – Participate in a program designed to help female student-athletes gain a competitive advantage in the professional world after graduation.

Sport Industry Speed Networking Event – Meet with professionals from multiple disciplines within the field through brief, one-on-one speed networking sessions and open networking opportunities.

“ Some of my takeaways from attending [MVP to CEO Series] would be to not doubt my ability and confidence, and how important networking and mentor relationships are. As well as to feel confident that being a student-athlete has prepared me for future challenges and that I have the characteristics to tackle them. ”
