at Towson University

Career opportunities in the environmental and geological sciences are expanding rapidly, drawing on those disciplines that focus on earth materials and processes, such as geology, geophysics, geochemistry and hydrogeology. The geosciences major at Towson University provides students with a strong core in the natural sciences and, at this time, two programs in geosciences: geology and earth science. The geology major has two tracks, General Geology and Environmental Geology. The General Geology track prepares students for further study in fields such as petrology, structural geology, sedimentology and stratigraphy and geochemistry. The Environmental Geology track is geared towards those seeking employment after graduation, as well as graduate study in areas such as low temperature geochemistry, environmental geology and hydrogeology. Employment opportunities for bachelor's degreeed geology majors are found with industry and government in areas such as environmental investigations and remediation and geotechnical engineering.
