My advice to anyone who’s applying.
The college search process can feel stressful and overwhelming at times, but trust
yourself, you’ve got this. As you explore different colleges and universities, focus
on finding a school where you feel comfortable, supported and excited about your future.
Look for a place where you can genuinely see yourself thriving, both academically
and personally. Remember, this is your journey. Take the time to learn about each
institution beyond academics and rankings. Explore the campus culture, student involvement
opportunities and the overall community to find a place where you truly feel like
you belong.
When it comes time to apply, don't be afraid to highlight your accomplishments both inside and outside the classroom. Take time to reflect on the experiences that have shaped you, and be as detailed and authentic as possible in your application. We want to learn about who you are, what motivates you and what you'll bring to a campus community.
Why I work in admissions.
I work in admissions because of the people, the community and the opportunity to make
a meaningful impact on students’ lives. One of the things I love most about Towson
University is the culture. The passion, dedication and support within the TU community
are truly unmatched, and my colleagues have played a significant role in my own journey.
As a recent Towson graduate, I understand firsthand the excitement, uncertainty and
challenges that can come with the college search and transition process. Because I’ve
been in those shoes, I enjoy helping students navigate their own paths and serving
as a resource throughout their journey.
College can feel daunting at times, but I want every student to know that they are capable of succeeding and achieving their goals. Being able to support students as they take this important step in their lives is what makes this work so rewarding.
How my student experiences prepared me for my role.
The Admissions Office is a place I know well. Before becoming an admissions counselor,
I served as both a Student Ambassador and an Admissions Marketing Intern, giving me
valuable experience connecting with prospective students and families. Beyond admissions,
I also worked as an orientation leader and a first-year experience leader with New Student and Family Programs at Towson University.
These experiences helped me develop strong communication, empathy and problem-solving
skills while working with students and families from a wide variety of backgrounds
and experiences.
Through these interactions, I gained a deeper understanding of the questions, concerns and aspirations that many students have as they prepare for college. I believe building meaningful connections and providing support are at the heart of being an admissions counselor. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is getting to connect with students and families, help answer their questions and assist them in overcoming challenges along the way. Knowing that I can play even a small part in helping someone achieve their educational goals is what inspires me every day.
