Something people might not know about TU.
Here at TU, we have an amazing arts community not only on campus but also off campus
in the surrounding Baltimore/Towson area. On campus you can find arts performances
like our music ensembles, art exhibitions in the Center for the Arts student galleries,
dance performances, end of semester film screenings featuring student films, student
made plays and so much more! And of course, in the greater Baltimore area we are only
a few miles away from art galleries like the Baltimore Museum of Art, there's the
Hippodrome where touring Broadway acts come to perform, and on top of that Baltimore
is home to a few notable historic movie theatres. The Senator is my personal favorite
(best movie theatre popcorn in the area)!
My advice to anyone who's applying.
Start your application early and take your time. There is no such thing as getting
started on your essay too soon. College application deadlines have a tendency to sneak
up on you, so give yourself plenty of time to complete your application. I also recommend
having at least one person look over your essay. A fresh set of eyes can catch mistakes
you may not have noticed.
What I love most about my job.
I love connecting with future Tigers both on and off campus. I find that no matter
where I am, whether that be right here at TU chatting with families during an open
house or before a campus tour, or even off campus during a college fair or high school
visit, engaging with prospective students is the highlight of my job as an Admissions
Counselor (she/her/hers).
My student experiences helped prepare me for my job.
I came to Towson University for college, moving here as an out-of-state student from
Delaware. My first semester it took me time to adjust to being on my own, miles and
miles away from everything I knew back in Delaware and the Eastern Shore of MD. I
was one of just three people from my high school who chose to come to TU. But after
a week or so I met some amazing people who have turned into my lifelong friends. Towson
truly began to feel like home to me, and as you can see, even after graduating I found
that I couldn't stay away! Having this experience of coming to Towson as an out-of-stater,
and from a high school where most people do not travel out-of-state to continue their
education, I understand firsthand how hard of a transition it can be for students
coming from outside of Maryland to come here. But trust me when I say, it takes time,
but you will find your people. Put yourself out there, join a club or two, and before
you know it Towson will be like a second home.
