Towson University football (1-0) opened the 2017 season with a 10-0 win over local rival Morgan State (0-1) in “The Battle for Greater Baltimore” on Saturday night at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.

TU's quarterbacks Morgan Mahalak and Ryan Stover combined to go 13-31 passing. The Tigers' defense played a key role in the game's only touchdown when Monty Fenner intercepted a pass by MSU's Elijah Staley and returned it 32 yards to the Bears' two yardline. On the next play, Shane Simpson scored TU's first TD of the year at 9:04 in the second quarter. The Tigers concluded the scoring with nine seconds left when Aidan O'Neill connected on a field goal from the 42 yardline.

Next up for TU is a trip to College Park, Maryland, to face the Terrapins at noon on Saturday, September 9. The Terps defeated #23 Texas Saturday night, 51-41, in the Lonestar State.
