Towson University was one of three higher education institutions to receive a TargetX award for innovations in accessibility during the online application process.

University of Texas, San Antonio and Western Connecticut State University were the other two institutions honored.

TU was honored for its unwavering dedication to remove barriers in the graduate online application so that prospective students who rely on a screen reader can successfully apply to the university. This effort involved live screen reader testing to identify and remove blocks, consulting with vision-impaired students for user feedback, and partnering with TargetX to accomplish technical functionality.

“The effort to make TU systems accessible is about providing a productive and welcoming environment for the widest range of persons in our community. Every successful accessibility project increases access for some and productivity for many,” says Matthew Wynd, of the Office of Technology Services.

The awards were announced during TargetX’s annual summit in late June in Chicago.
