President Kim Schatzel welcomed the freshman class and students who have transferred in to Towson University at a SECU Arena Friday morning, kicking off a busy weekend for new students on campus.

“This is your university now. Welcome to this important, exciting and sometimes a bit scary next phase of your lives. We are so glad you're here and so glad you're part of Towson University,” she said.

President Schatzel encouraged all the new students to rub a bronze Tiger statue's ear for luck before classes began.

You get to invent yourself, try new things, and meet new people, Schatzel said.

The president also told students that they can impact the culture in the community around them.

Schatzel encouraged students: Start here.

This weekend, students will have an opportunity to get involved right away, with a series of events geared toward engagement with the campus community.
