Towson University to participate in Heart Walk

Towson University President Kim Schatzel will be a co-chair of the 2018 Greater Maryland Heart Walk, and she's hoping to be joined by a bunch of Tigers at the event in October.

The 25th Anniversary Heart Walk will be held Oct. 13 at the Camden Yards sports complex in Baltimore. The walk is organized by the American Heart Association, and for the first time, TU is participating.

Members of the TU community can form their own teams via Towson's own web page on the event's website — greatermarylandheartwalk.org/towson.

One in three Americans has some form of cardiovascular disease and stroke is the leading cause of disability in the United States.

The walk will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Registration for the walk is free. Here's how you do it.

  1. Click on the link – Towson University Heart Walk 2018
  2. Scroll down to join any of the existing teams or create one by clicking on the red ‘Create a Team’ button in the upper left corner
  3. If creating a team, choose a team name and set fundraising goals for your team
  4. Fill out the registration form with your Towson University email address, optional personal donation and T-shirt size.
  5. You’re all set to Heart Walk.

The walk has a 1-mile and 2-mile route.

Fundraising is encouraged but not required. The fun walk is held to promote physical activity.

Events on site include Zumba and yoga before and after the walk. There will be healthy cooking demonstrations, screenings and a kids zone. Pets are also allowed — provided they're on a leash — and there is an agility course for your four-legged participant.
