Homecoming ready to return to campus

After a virtual year, Homecoming returns with plenty of in-person events

Students will have tons of events to attend for Homecoming 2021. The week will culminate with the Towson Tigers hosting Rhode Island on Saturday, Oct. 16. at 4 p.m. (Lauren Castellana/Towson University) 

This year, an in-person Homecoming has a special meaning after last year’s festivities were completely virtual.

Homecoming takes place from Oct. 9–16, and it features a full schedule of student and alumni events that celebrate Towson University coming back together.  

The week culminates with the football team hosting Rhode Island on Saturday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., with parking lots opening at noon for tailgating.

Student Events

Party at Gatsby’s Homecoming Pageant
Monday, Oct. 11 | 7 p.m. | West Village Ballrooms

The annual pageant will highlight the nominated candidates of this year’s Homecoming Court. They will participate in a costume portion, perform a talent and answer questions, as they compete to become the 2021 Homecoming king and queen.

Students can pick up free tickets to this event at the Towson University box office in West Village Commons room 309, and can vote for up to two candidates for king, queen, and/or royal using Involved@TU.

TU’s Got Talent
Tuesday, Oct. 12 | 7 p.m. | University Union Ballrooms

A Homecoming tradition as members of the community show off their different talents.

Dance the Madness
Thursday, Oct. 14 | 7 p.m. | SECU Arena

Dance the Madness is a competitive co-ed, group performance by student organizations, which present a short routine that promotes school spirit.

Block Party
Friday, Oct. 15 | 5 p.m. | Lot 4, lot near Johnny Unitas® Stadium

This fall festival is the perfect way to cap the week for students. Sample some grilled hot dogs and burgers, play fun fall games, pet a llama at the petting zoo or compete for prizes in point-based activities such as a four-legged race, water balloon toss, egg race and more.

Alumni Events

Homecoming Virtual Mixology Class
Wednesday, Oct. 13 | 6 p.m. | Zoom

Join the TU Alumni Association for a black-and-gold-themed mixology class. Fancy Sips will show how to create three delicious cocktails using TU colors. Don’t forget to wear your black and gold gear, as the most-spirited participant will win a prize.

Guests will learn how to use the tools and techniques needed to create the three cocktails, as well as creative alternatives for the drinks.

Prices: 2021 Grads: $5, 2020 & Prior Grads: $10

All registered guests will receive an alumni swag pack in the mail. This is an interactive session, and spots are limited, so register now. A Zoom link will be sent to all registrants at least 24 hours in advance.

This mixology class is offered for responsible adults 21 years or older and is intended for entertainment purposes.

Party on Penn’s Uptown Roar Rally
Friday, Oct. 15 | 6:30 p.m. | Pennsylvania Avenue, Towson, Md.

The Towson Chamber of Commerce and the Towson University Department of Athletics will host a special pep rally in uptown Towson. There will be live music provided by Sundogs, food available from local restaurants and special appearances by the Towson University Cheerleaders, Pom Squad and Doc the Tiger.

7th Annual Tiger Trot 5K

Everyone is encouraged to participate. The race route will loop runners through campus, showing them TU's new and exciting buildings and construction. Runners are encouraged to wear black and gold apparel to showcase their Tiger pride.

A virtual option has been added this year. Now, runners can participate anywhere in the world . Those who choose the virtual option will receive their race shirt in the mail.

Get ready for the big game at this four-hour Alumni Homecoming Festival, which will include performances by Rodney Stevens ’97, aka DJ Rod Madd Flava; a steel drum band; TU student groups and special appearances by Doc the Tiger and the TU Marching Band.

Alumni celebrity bartenders will be located around SECU Plaza, raising money for select TU Foundation accounts. Alumni-owned wines and beers will be available, and those attending can play a round of cornhole, Jenga and other backyard games before entering the stadium to cheer on the Tigers.

Entrance to SECU Plaza for the festival is free; tickets are not required. If you only want to attend the festival and not purchase food tickets, click here

Festival food tickets are $10 and include entrance to the Alumni Homecoming Festival and one food voucher per person to access the hospitality area in SECU Arena. Food tickets must be picked up at the festival by the purchaser.
