After your page content is added, you will need to add the article to the RSS Feed before you publish.

1

Click on “Properties.”

To add the page into the RSS feed, check the page out and click on “Properties” from the top menu.

2

Select “RSS.”

Select “RSS” from the left menu then click on the article title to open the RSS menu options.

3

Edit “Description” (if needed).

In the RSS Menu, you will see the “Description” text, which is pre-populated from the original page build. The “Description” field is the text that will appear in the RSS teaser. It can be edited here.

4

Edit “Author Name” (if needed).

In the RSS item’s menu, the “Author” text is pre-populated with the name and email of the person who built the page. Note: The email address doesn’t appear in the feed. You can edit the name of the author.

5

Add the “Media Content.”

From the RSS menu, Click the “+Add” button.
The “+Add” button opens the “New Media Content” form.

  • Add the article “Title.”
  • Add a “Description” of the image (for ADA purposes). Note: The same image should be used for both the -sq and -m images because there’s only one alternate text field.
  • In the “File” field, select a square image (–sq) from the Images folder in the News directory.
  • In the “Thumbnail” field, select an “–m” crop image from the Images folder in the News directory.
  • Click Create. And then Save.

6

Publish the story.

Finally, click the green Publish button. After you click Publish, a pop-up window opens with spell check and link check results. Review and fix any errors. Click Publish again.

Check the News landing to verify that the story was added to the feed. Also check the news feed on myTU to see the display of the -sq image and text.

Add categories to the RSS in the “Extra XML” field (if needed).

If you need to add categories to the RSS feed after a page is built, follow these instructions:

  • Open the news article page.
  • Go to Properties > RSS > Click on the story name.
  • Go to the "Extra XML" field. It will be pre-populated with a Category tag that looks like this <category>.
  • Add the category or categories (i.e., featured, research, ) in between the opening category tag <category> and the closing category tag </category>.
  • If more than one category is needed, place a comma (no space) between each category. It will look like this:
    <category>
                     featured,arts-culture
                              </category>
  • The category names are as follows:
    featured
    arts-culture
    research
    cbe
    coe
    cofac
    chp
    cla
    fcsm
    honors
    gradstudies
  • Click Save.
  • Click Rebuild Feed.

Note: TU Today will pull the story tagged "featured" from the RSS feed by looking at all stories published the day prior. The cut-off for identifying a “featured” story for the next day’s TU Today is 11:59 p.m. the night before.

If more than one story has been marked with the “featured” category for a given day, then the story with the latest time stamp will be pulled into TU Today.

If no story is marked “featured” for a given day, then TU Today links to the news landing page.
