I assist with daily operations of permanent supportive housing facility for single, homeless clients specializing in mental health and substance abuse. Megan Fogerty, CCLS

Major: BS, Family & Human Services-Child Life
Masters: MS-Child Life, Administration & Family Collaboration
Employment: Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
Title: Outpatient Child Life Specialist

As an Outpatient Child Life Specialist in the Cardiac Center, my job entails not only preparing children and families for cardiac procedures, including cardiac catheterizations, cardiac ablations, cardiac MRI's, open heart surgeries and heart transplants.  In a developmentally appropriate way, but also providing support on the day of their procedures.  For my patients that do their cardiac catheters awake, with no anesthesia or sedation medicine, I provide support during the procedure in the form of anticipatory guidance, distraction, and coping.

“ A student should consider the FMST major because the coursework learned is applicable to not only a career in human services, but also other careers. ”

Andrew Klansek

Major:  BS, Family and Human Services-Child LIfe
Employment:  Brandywine Living at Potomac
Title:  Director of Community Relations

My direct responsibilities are to run the sales and marketing department.  I coordinate events and run the marketing plan for the community.  When moving into a senior living community, it is a life changing event for both the resident moving in and the family.  I make sure that the families feel secure and confident with their decision to move into my community.  Most importantly, my job is to show the family that they are going to be loved and cared for once they are here.

“ Towson's FMST programs taught me how to approach each family with the best support possible.  Every family has a different story and different relationships. ”

Barb Henschel, CFLE

Major:  BS, Family and Human Services-Child LIfe
Employment:  Port Discovery Children's Museum
Title:  Director of Community Relations

I oversee the direction, function and daily operations of the outreach team, under Port Discovery's Education Department.  Our team provides direct service in preparation and facilitation of educational activities and programming through the museum's live virtual learning, in-person classroom programs, after school and summer camp partnership programs, hospital partnerships for NICU programming, as well as, traveling exhibits and community festivals and events.  I continue to be amazed when reconnecting with those I met in my time at Towson to see where each of our unique journeys have taken us in our work, yet, all of us are still grounded and guided in the work and roots of Family and Human Services we began at Towson.

“ The diversity of skills you will gain in FMST will take you far, and you will find applicable to any job and life experience. ”

I work with adolescents experiencing mental health crises in a short-term inpatient setting located in Brattleboro, Vermont with a team of counselors and clinicians.  With clients, I work on identifying challenges in their lives and then building on skills that will keep them safe and successful at home.  I still remember the panel of Family Studies alumni that was one of the best things for me in actually expanding what I knew I could do with these degree.
