Margherita Pampinella, native of Italy, received her Laurea in Classics from the Università degli Studi of Padua (Italy) in 1995, her Master of Arts in Latin and her Ph.D. in Italian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002.

She came to Towson University in August 2008, and currently holds the rank of Chair of the Department and Professor of Italian. She coordinates the Italian Program, and advises both the Italian Club (Il Circolo) and the Towson Chapter of the National Italian Honor Society GKA. She also leads a Study Abroad Minimester Program in Venice every other year.

Her area of expertise is Italian Medieval literature, with a concentration on Dante’s Comedy. Her scholarly interests also include literature of migration, and literary translation.
