Dr. Ziad Bentahar holds degrees from Mohammed V University in Rabat, and the Pennsylvania State University.

The dynamics of French and Arabic in contemporary North Africa. His work mainly centers on the liminal position of the Maghreb, and the region’s literary, cultural, and linguistic ties to other areas.

Biography

Dr. Ziad Bentahar holds degrees from Mohammed V University in Rabat, and the Pennsylvania State University. He has previously taught at institutions both in the U.S. and Morocco, including Brown University and the Université Internationale de Rabat. He is now Associate Professor of French and Arabic at Towson University, and his research and teaching are informed by his interest in the dynamics of French and Arabic in contemporary North Africa. His work mainly centers on the liminal position of the Maghreb, and the region’s literary, cultural, and linguistic ties to other areas. He has published on several subjects relating to North Africa, including Frantz Fanon’s work in Algeria, Moroccan Popular Music, Harems in orientalist art, and elements of Amazigh and Islamic history in a literary work by Driss Chraïbi.
