Biography

Sel J. Hwahng, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Women, Gender, Health, and Sexuality. Dr. Hwahng has received numerous grants, awards, and fellowships from such organizations/institutions such as the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institutes of Health, the American Public Health Association, the International AIDS Society, the Association for Women in Psychology, and the American Heart Association. Publications include 30 sole-, first-, and co-authored articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. Dr. Hwahng is also the editor of the Global LGBTQ Health book series (publisher: Springer Nature) and is currently co-editing the first book in this series (with Michelle Kaufman, Ph.D.), also entitled Global LGBTQ Health. Sel has recently served on the Board of Directors for the Center for LGBTQ Studies at the City University of New York and as the Program Chair for the LGBT Caucus of the American Public Health Association. Dr. Hwahng is also pursuing an Sc.M. degree in Cardiovascular Epidemiology, at Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health.
