Teacher Licensure Options 

Graduates of the MAT program are eligible for teacher licensure in general education or special education. Curricular requirements might be revised due to changes in state licensure requirements. Students should work with their advisor to ensure they are following the correct program plan.

General Education

  • Early childhood education (Pre-K to grade 3)
  • Elementary education (grades 1 to 6)
  • Secondary education (grades 7 to 12) 
    • Biology 
    • Chemistry
    • Earth-space science
    • English 
    • Mathematics 
    • Physics
    • History/social studies 
  • World languages (Pre-K to grade 12) in
    • French
    • Spanish
  • Art education (Pre-K to grade 12)

Special Education

  • Infant/primary special education (birth to grade 3)
  • Elementary/middle special education (grades 1 to 8)
  • Secondary/adult education (grades 6 to 12) 

MAT Program Options

We offer one-year, part-time and accelerated options for the MAT program. Choose the option that works best for you and earn your degree in-person and/or online.

One-Year Option: Hybrid

  • Available for
    • Early childhood
    • Elementary
    • Secondary
    • World languages
  • Summer term start only (end of May)
  • General education licensure only
  • Requires a full daytime commitment to courses and internship
  • Part-Time internship required during the fall term
  • Full-time internship completed in the spring term
  • Completed in four terms

Part-Time Options

Depending on your licensure, you can get your MAT completely online or in a hybrid format.

  • Fall and spring start
  • Late afternoon and evening courses
  • Final term of program requires full-time commitment to courses and internship

hybrid option

  • Available for all licensure options
  • Rolling admission with fall, spring and summer start
  • Late afternoon and evening courses for early childhood, elementary, secondary, world languages and special education. Art education requires daytime course work.
  • Final term of program requires full-time commitment to courses and internship

Accelerated OPTION

The Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s Program in Teaching allows TU undergraduate students, majoring in a non-education field, to complete their graduate MAT degree plus teacher licensure in a shorter time. As early as junior year, you can apply to the accelerated program and begin courses that count toward the MAT program.
