Jan Baum is the founder of Object Lab, a comprehensive, research-based, state-of the-art rapid technologies and digital fabrication lab based in the Baltimore, Maryland region. Engaging the full range of digital technologies for next generation making and manufacturing: 3D imaging and scanning, 3D digital modeling, rapid prototyping, and digital fabrication, Object Lab has six 3D printers, three open source, 3 proprietary and four different 3D printing technologies. Object Lab is an open regional resource educating and engaging audiences in a 21st century digital age mindset.

Object Lab was a 2012 finalist for Smart CEO's Leader in Technology Volt Award.

A leader in bringing the advanced manufacturing agenda to the greater Baltimore region, she has leadership roles in conferences such as NextGen M, Rapid Tech for Make and Manufacture and Betascape, network groups such as Rapid Tech Leaders and Learners, and she speaks frequently on a variety of topics to a wide array of audiences such as tech transfer for industry, networks for advancing the rapid tech agenda, and how 3D printing and additive manufacturing are changing our world and work.

She consults with a variety of companies, entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship centers, executive MBA programs, chambers of commerce, and educational institutions on integrating 3D printing and additive manufacturing into current models.

As a Professor Baum bridges disciplines and traditional boundaries by being an early adopter of emerging trends and technologies such as design thinking, digital fabrication technologies, and multi-disciplinary work. Of note is Baum’s successful track record of integrating real world experiences in the curriculum and a very successful job placement record.
