In the Fall 2013 semester, the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics (FCSM) established the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Living Learning Community (LLC) with the goal of providing a residential environment that fosters both academic and social success for a diverse group of FCSM majors interested in science and mathematics. Living in the STEM LLC is a great way for students to connect with other students, faculty and staff; build community; and enhance their learning experience at Towson University. This experience assists students in navigating challenging first-year courses and in making life-long friendships as well as helping students explore opportunities around research and their future careers.

Benefits of living in the FCSM STEM LLC include:

  • Ability to learn about classes, programs of study, internships, research and career opportunities
  • Formation of study groups with other STEM Scholars and study areas within the residential community with tables and white boards
  • Ability to attend informal STEM seminars and workshops held in the residential community
  • Tutoring sessions administered by upper class majors and graduate students
  • Small group meetings with faculty and distinguished visitors to FCSM
  • Field trips and tours of on-campus research facilities
  • Career events and opportunities to closely interact with individuals working in related areas or professions
  • Programming designed to enhance academic success (e.g., time management, study skills)
  • Access to Major Club activities and meetings in the residential community
  • Cohort participation in campus events outside FCSM
  • Opportunities for civic engagement and community outreach
