TU ready to head back to the '90s for Homecoming Weekend

Tiger pride will be running strong with free on-campus events for students all week long.

This year's Towson University Homecoming Committee wanted to do something special to celebrate the entire student body for the 2017 Homecoming Week —from incoming freshmen to seniors. With most of the freshmen class having been born in 1999, the committee figured why not celebrate the decade of their birth?

Homecoming chair Kristen Zdon wondered if a '90s theme could fit into the planned events, but a little research cemented the idea of taking TU’s homecoming “back to the '90s.”

“We found so much information and that turned into conversations for hours about all of our favorite memories in the '90s from famous foods, movies and toys,” said Zdon. “Everyone got really nostalgic just thinking about the theme, and we figured if it got our committee this excited and other people we talked to, we couldn't resist.”

For Zdon, a senior elementary education major from Whiteford, Maryland, this will be her third year helping out with Homecoming. She and the committee started planning back in March and selected directors and committee back in February.

The committee has also been working with administrators and different departments on campus. But most of the events have been planned and organized by students.

“None of our students who are involved are paid, and it just shows how putting in hours of work per week shows their dedication and passion for Homecoming,” Zdon said. “I am so excited to see all the hard work the directors and committee have placed into this event. It truly is going to be a successful week, and I can't wait to see the reactions of students and staff of all of events.”

Homecoming will have events every day of the week, and all events will free and open to all students. This year’s highlight events include:
