On April 17, 2024, the Towson University community participated in its 24-hour day of giving: TU Big Give. This annual event occurs each spring and has been successful since its start six years ago. Just last year, a new initiative called the Canine Comfort Companion Fund led to one of TU’s newest additions—Bruno!

This year’s record-setting TU Big Give 2024 raised more than $424,000—almost $50,000 more than last year—from more than 2,000 donors. These numbers attest to the strength of TU’s philanthropic community and the unwavering support it has for helping students pursue their passions, achieve their goals and make positive impacts in the world.

“I’m blown away,” says Kristen McCurdy ‘16, director of annual iving. “In just a single day, faculty, staff, students, alums and community partners showed just how impactful TU is. These donations will provide vital support for scholarships, academic programs, campus initiatives and so much more. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day record breaking!”

The top five beneficiaries over the 24-hour period were Towson University Athletics, TU Fund, College of Fine Arts & Communication, Fisher College of Science and Mathematics and College of Health Professions. For more results, check out the full campaign leaderboard.

The Tiger Scavenger Hunt, a popular addition from last year, raised $5,900 from 23 corporate and personal sponsors who funded 21 stuffed tigers hidden across campus. Any student who found a tiger selected from any of the TU Foundation funds to direct the gift represented by the toy. Their top choices were the Military & Veterans Center, Women’s Track & Field and Women’s Rugby Football Club. Students also received their own swag bag for sharing that they found a stuffed tiger on Instagram and telling their followers which fund they chose.

“The Towson University community has come together once again, showcasing its immense generosity,” says Brian DeFilippis, vice president of university advancement. “TU Big Give continues to play an integral role in the success of our students. It’s inspiring to see so many people get involved to make an incredible difference in the lives of TU’s students.”
