What’s new on campus for fall
New buildings, amenities to tap into this term
By Pamela Gorsuch on August 28, 2024
From new academic buildings to easier Chick-fil-A ordering, a variety of campus improvements are rolling out for the 2024-25 academic year. Here are five projects and amenities to check out this fall, including a new outdoor dining option and a rooftop garden.
New Health Professions building
TU’s new state-of-the-art Health Professions building is open—and everyone will want to take a peek inside. The rooftop gardens, café and 350-seat auditorium (home to future interprofessional education events) are as appealing to the general campus population as its high-tech, high-touch simulation centers and specialty labs are to future nurses, occupational therapists and other health professionals. Don’t miss the outdoor seating on the building’s multi-level west patio, which offers spaces to study and connect while enjoying a sweeping view of TU’s academic core.
A more open academic core
Returning students, faculty and staff will notice a big difference in the center of campus this fall. The northeast portion of Smith Hall was deconstructed this summer, making way for a new 80,000-square foot addition that will extend toward the Lecture Hall. Demolition wraps up this September, and the newly renovated and expanded building will open in fall 2027 as the home for communications, media arts and teaching excellence. Stay tuned for more details on the Smith Hall Renovation and renderings of the building later this fall.
Outdoor eating in the Glen
The Glen Plaza got a glow-up this summer as part of the Glen Towers renovation project, which is heading into its final year of construction. New pavers, fresh landscaping and updated grading give the plaza a gentler slope and a more natural feel. The project also added an outdoor patio connecting to the Glen Dining Hall, offering an al fresco eating option in this always energetic residential core. The patio will especially be a hot-spot on Fridays, when the Glen (and other campus dining halls) offer a $6 all-you-can-eat lunch for faculty and staff.
Faster Chick-fil-A
New self-order kiosks are getting Chick-fil-A into hungry hands faster this fall. Located in front of the counter, the kiosks enable students, faculty and staff to skip the line and order any menu item themselves. Orders will be made fresh and brought out at the counter just like when you order at the register. The new kiosks, which were installed to cut down on wait times, complement existing ones in front of Dunkin’ that service the other Union Food Market stalls. Additional self-ordering kiosks are located on campus at Au Bon Pain and the pasta station in West Village Dining Hall.
New Amazon package lockers
The quickest way to receive Amazon packages on campus is through dedicated lockers, and now there are more to go around. Nearly 50 new lockers were added to the West Village this summer, combining with the existing lockers at 10 West and the Union Garage. All students, faculty and staff can use them by selecting the locker as their delivery method during Amazon checkout, then monitoring their email for pick-up details.
All other residential student packages can be picked up at TU mail lockers on the first floors of the Union and Union Garage. Students will get a delivery notification in their TU email when a package is ready. Rely on this email for pick-up timing, location and instructions, as the carrier notification doesn’t reflect the package’s processing time once it arrives at TU. It will take a few extra days to receive packages during the busy start of the term so please be patient.
