Position

The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a 9-month lecturer position in the Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences beginning January 2023. 

Qualifications

Candidates are expected to have recent experience teaching introductory physics and strong communication skills. A Master’s degree in physics or related field is required, while a PhD in physics or a closely related field with a background in biophysics or condensed matter physics is preferred. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States beginning January 2023. Opportunities for summer teaching may be available.

Responsibilities

The primary duty will be to teach introductory physics courses for majors and non-majors, upper-level physics courses, and potentially graduate level courses. Such courses would include both lecture and laboratory components totaling 12 contact hours of workload. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, lecturers are required to contribute 20% of their time toward service or research duties, commensurate with the department’s goals. This might include duties such as mentoring of graduate TAs, redesign of courses such as the general physics for life sciences, or supervision of student research projects.
