Committee Representation

The GSA represents the interests of graduate students on many different university committees and college councils. As members of the GSA, we are able to act as a liaison between the graduate student body and these committees. If you have any questions or concerns regarding one of these committees or want to serve on one of them, please contact the GSA.

University Assessment Committee - The purpose of the University Assessment Council and its subcommittees shall be to provide guidance, structure, and support for the assessment of student learning throughout the institution.

Council of Student Leaders (SGA) – The purpose of the Council of Student Leaders is to help build connections between key student groups on campus and to provide an opportunity for us to interact, share information, and identify issues of concern to students.

 
Teacher Executive Education Board – Members meet to coordinate departmental policies for field experiences, relations with schools, research activities, advising and placement, and staff development activities associated with teacher education programs.

 
Diversity Action Committee – The Diversity Action Committee is composed of a cross section of members of the academic and administrative divisions of the university and representatives of the student body. The committee exists to support the institution's Strategic Diversity Goals and makes appropriate recommendations for the success of campus-wide diversity initiatives to the Diversity Coordinating Council.

 
Resource Planning Committee – The purpose of this committee is to meet and discuss how to improve the allocation of resources within the university, new developments, and institutional adjustments.

 
Student Appeals Committee – Members of this committee will be reviewing the appeals of undergraduate students' disciplinary charges and deliberating on the next course of action for the student.

 
Informational and Instructional Technology Committee – This committee addresses procurement and allocation of instructional technology resources that benefit student learning.

 
University Senate – The University Senate is the primary policy-making body of the university as well as the academic community's primary advisory body to the president.

 
Graduate Studies Committee – The Graduate Studies Committee is a sub-committee of the University Senate. It determines Graduate Studies policy and is responsible for graduate curriculum and standards. The voting membership comprises ten members of the faculty, and two graduate students, one of whom is the President of the Graduate Students Association. Subcommittees of the Graduate Studies Committee review new and changed graduate courses, review applications for Graduate Faculty status, and make selections for graduate student awards.

 
Library Advisory Committee - The Library Advisory Council has several purposes: to serve as an information channel between the library, faculty and students in the planning and development of programs and services to meet the needs of the University; to advocate for University resources to support the Library collections and services; to advocate for the integration of information literacy and library instruction into the academic programs; and to provide a forum review and discussion of new library initiatives.

University System of MD Student Council - This group is comprised of both graduate and undergraduate student leaders from the twelve USM institutions. Members are informed of policy changes at the various universities and utilize this connection to share ideas between the institutions. Communication from this group goes directly to the Chancellor, ensuring that student voices are heard when the universities are considering changes.

University Students Technology  Advisory Group (USTAG) - This group provides student government leaders and representatives of various special-interest constituents with a direct channel for input into the University computing environment and technology issues that affect students.
