This certified phlebotomy technician course provides a thorough introduction to phlebotomy and prepares you for a career in healthcare. This self-paced, online phlebotomy technician course offers a thorough introduction to the field of phlebotomy and prepares you for a career in healthcare. Throughout the course, you will learn about drawing blood from patients and blood donors, evaluating patients’ ability to withstand the procedure, and helping them feel comfortable. You will also gain the skills to clearly explain the blood-drawing process and respond to patient questions with confidence.

In addition to learning how to perform basic point-of-care testing, such as reading blood glucose levels, you will also be introduced to properly preparing blood, urine, and other specimens for laboratory testing. This self-paced phlebotomy certification course also covers how to handle and maintain essential medical equipment, including needles, test tubes, and blood vials.

To support hands-on learning, the course includes a comprehensive phlebotomy kit that features a realistic practice arm, which allows you to simulate blood draws and complete assignments that mirror real-world scenarios. To participate in the competency activities and receive feedback from your instructor, you will need to have access to a video camera (on the phone or other device of familiarity) and be able to upload the video as an .mp4 file to the assignment pages for review. These activities are required in order to successfully pass the course.

To sit for the NHA CPT certification exam, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. It is recommended you have this before enrolling in this program. In addition, for NHA certification, you must successfully complete the required number of venipunctures and dermal punctures. Certification exams offered by NHA are only available online to candidates located in the U.S.

Upon completion, you will receive a complimentary voucher to take the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), provided that eligibility requirements are met.

To sit for the NHA CPT certification exam, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. It is recommended you have this before enrolling in this program. In addition, for NHA certification, you must successfully complete the required number of venipunctures and dermal punctures. Students are supported by both an assigned instructor and assigned advisor throughout the duration of the course. Students receive contact information for both upon enrollment and all communication is handled via email. Students should allow up to two business days for responses.
