Trades Development Program

Earn trade skills through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction.

The Trades Development Program is a two-year program designed for post high school graduates with little to no experience in multiple trades.

Program Highlights

  • Two-year, full-time employment and training program
  • Year 1: Exposure to multiple trades (HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical).
  • Year 2: Choose a specialty trade or continue multi-trade development.
  • Classroom instruction by craftsmen or trade professionals
  • On-the-job experience in soft skills like communication, time management, safety and adaptability.

Curriculum includes:

  • Safety on the Job
  • Fundamental Electrical Repairs
  • Common Carpentry
  • Plumbing Solutions
  • Solving Common Painting Problems
  • HVAC Start-up Procedures

Students who do well are welcome to stay for a second year where they can specialize in a trade or continue in multiple trades.

Program Cost

TU covers the price of the program; there is no cost to participants.

Program Benefits

All program participants are hired as Contingent Category I Employees and are eligible for benefits like insurance, supplemental retirement plans and various discount programs.
