Application Deadlines

The application deadline is August 1 for the class that will matriculate the following June. The most successful applicants are those individuals who apply to CASPA as early as possible in the application cycle, have competitive GPAs as well as grades in science courses, and strong clinical experience in patient care.

The Towson University/CCBC Essex Physician Assistant Program no longer observes a rolling admissions process. Please note the deadline for the next application cycle will be August 1. Your application must be verified in CASPA by August 1

Admission Requirements 

For the master’s degree program, applicants must meet the following requirements for graduate admission at Towson University:

  • This program admits summer term only.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university** with a GPA of 3.00 for full admission
    NOTE: The bachelor’s degree must be completed by May 31 of the applicant year.

Prerequisites

Completion of prerequisite courses, with a grade of “B” or better, within the last 10 years:

  • Anatomy (or Anatomy and Physiology I) (4)
  • Physiology (or Anatomy and Physiology II) (4)
  • Microbiology (4)
  • Online labs will be accepted
  •  Labs are required for: 
    • Anatomy (or Anatomy and Physiology I) (4)
    •  Physiology (or Anatomy and Physiology II) (4)
    •  Microbiology (4)
  • Biochemistry (3) Note: Organic Chemistry is not a substitute for Biochemistry
  • College-level Statistics in any discipline (3)
  • Medical terminology (minimum 2 units, 3 preferred)
  • Health Care in the United States (3) or its equivalent at another college or university

Experience Hours

Completion of a minimum number of documented hours of experience in a health care setting (800 hours required, 1600 hours preferred) 

  • No updates to patient contact hours after the application is submitted to CASPA.
  • Patient contact hours can include hands-on patient care experience or medically related experiences including: 

    • Clinical hours completed as part of a health care training program
    •  Medical or clinical research with or without patient contact
    •  Volunteer hospital or clinical experience
    •  Documented home health care experience

International Students

Additionally, for international students, there is a change to the TOEFL minimum score requirements.  A minimum TOEFL score of 25 is required on the Speaking section. A minimum score of 20 is required for all other sections (Listening, Reading, and Writing).

Program Preferences

Program preferences for admission may be given to Veterans and Towson University Alumni and/or Maryland residents.

How to Apply

  • Applicants must first apply through CASPA.
  • The CASPA verification deadline is August 1.
  • When notified, complete the Towson application by the given deadline. Do not submit the Towson University application unless notified.
