The Big Event
The Big Event originated at Texas A&M and is the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation. The event promotes campus and community unity as hundreds of students come together for service-oriented activities on one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community.
The Big Event at TU
At TU the Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility coordinates The Big Event with leaders from local community associations. Projects raise awareness of environmental sustainability and include cleaning up streams, beautifying local greenspaces, and preparing community gardens for the planting season. Through their respective community association, elderly residents or residents with mobility limitations can request light gardening beautification support from student volunteers.
The Big Event 2024
The Big Event will be from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
The Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility will contact local community associations in February to complete a Partner Interest Form.
Registration for students to participate in The Big Event will become available here after Spring Break. Students who are participating as part of a student organization will be grouped together.
