English Minor

Improve your communication skills and broaden your appreciation of writing across a variety of styles through a minor in English.

View minor requirements in the Undergraduate Catalog.

The English minor can help you to sharpen your language and communication skills and broaden your horizons:

  • This supremely flexible program allows you to take virtually any ENGL course for minor credit, as well as up to 2 literature courses in another language from the department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.
  • The minor requires ENGL 102 or 190 (already a Core requirement for all students) plus 7 additional courses.
  • Develop your appreciation of literature from different cultures and time periods.
  • Hone your analytical, creative, and persuasive writing abilities.
  • Pick up other specific training relevant to your career or life goals (tech writing, editing, grant writing, etc.).
  • If you are in a more technical major, it is a great way to round out your skill set with the analytical and communication abilities that employers want!
