Eligibility

You are eligible to participate in a GPA project, if you are:

  • a citizen, national or permanent resident of the United States
  • currently employed full-time in a United States school system
  • have two years of teaching experience and a contract to teach during the 2023-2024 school year
  • able to incorporate a learning unit on Latin America and/or Spanish language and culture in your teaching or administration and disseminate the unit to others
  • have a minimum level of Advanced-low Spanish proficiency for Spanish language teachers (ACTFL Proficiency Scale), and at least one year of university level Spanish for all others. Applicants invited to an interview, will complete the Spanish language placement test (free of charge) before the interview is conducted.

You must also have at least one of the following qualifications:

  • teach in an elementary, middle, or secondary school
  • be an experienced education administrator responsible for planning, conducting or supervising programs in modern foreign languages or area studies at the elementary or secondary levels

Cost

Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad “Partners in Education – Peru, 2024” encompasses pre- and post-departure online workshops and more than 250 hours of a full array of in-country activities including language and culture study, lectures, seminars, interviews, excursions, participatory events, and home stays.

The fee to participants for the six-week program is $1,500 to be paid in full upon acceptance into the program. The remaining $7,500 per participant is paid by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and Towson University.

Program covered expenses include international airfare (up to $1,500), most in-country transportation, lodging, two meals per day (except on international travel days when meals are not provided), entrance tickets to program activities, tuition for language and culture study, lectures, and workshops. 

In addition to the program fee, participants will be responsible for fees incurred to obtain passport, travel insurance, books for language and culture study (approx. $25), one meal per day, some local transportation, and tips.
